Maintenance
By Andy Robinson
I was out of whack
I was on the blink
My girlfriend told me you should see my shrink
The shrink said I’ve seen this before, buddy, you are not unique
The best thing I can tell you is come see me twice a week
You need maintenance – regular maintenance
You let things go too long and that ain’t smart
You need maintenance – regular maintenance
Whatcha gonna do when the wheels fall off the cart?
So I went to my doctor
And I went to church
I consulted a psychic
For whatever that’s worth
My dentist, my dealer, my chiropractor too
They took one look at me and said we know what’s wrong with you
You need maintenance – regular maintenance, etc.
So I’m leaving it to the professionals
As advertised on TV
A wise man said know thyself
But maybe they know better than me
Now I’m improving
Things aren’t so bad
I’m not too angry
I’m not too sad
I drink expensive Kool-aid, I suck up every drop
And I feel so much better I can’t afford to stop
You need maintenance – regular maintenance, etc.
In Your Own Backyard
By Andy Robinson
If you want a lover, tell you what to do
Hang up your walking shoes your walking days are through
No matter what they tell you, it doesn’t have to be so hard
You can find what you’re looking for in your own backyard
Why take the trouble to go out with other guys?
Take a look around you then open up your eyes
No matter what they tell you, it doesn’t have to be so hard
You can find what you’re looking for in your own backyard
There’s a rhythm in those rusty springs
Those cast-off, thrown away, overlooked things
On the back porch there’s a rocking chair
I can see you and me rocking there
So don’t be sad and lonely – give this boy a try
If you need a reason I’ve a thousand reasons why
No matter what they tell you, you’ve always held the winning card
And love will be waiting in your own backyard
I'm Going Back To Bed
By Andy Robinson
There’s a world out there – it don’t need me
I’m letting go, I’m feeling free
Deep sleep, sweet dreams, I’m going back to bed
You can fight the good fight all day long, I’ll do this instead
I’m going back to bed
Life is tough – it’s a stormy sea
Today I think I’ve found the key
Deep sleep, etc.
Someone else can take my turn
Someone else can have my share
Someone else can take my place
I’m exploring inner space
I’ll be back – just not today
I’m gonna leave my troubles where they lay
Deep sleep, etc.
I Thought I Knew America
By Andy Robinson
I thought I knew America
I was wrong, obviously
When she whispered freedom into my ear
It meant something different to me
Get along, she said, get along, my friends
We’ve a long road to travel, get along
I thought I knew America
There were stranger forces at play
I’ve a sad old feeling down in my bones
She may be slipping away
Get along, she said, etc.
Rain In My Head
By Andy Robinson, based on the poem “Rain” by Shel Silverstein
I opened my eyes and looked up at the rain
It dripped onto my head and flowed into my brain
Now all that I hear since I rolled out of bed
Is the whispering sound of the rain in my head
Rain in my head
Rain in my head
I step very softly, I move very slow
‘Cause if I’m not careful I might overflow
I might wash down the drain or be mopped up instead
Simple things can get tricky when there’s rain in my head
Rain in my head, etc.
This song’s almost over, you’ve learned something about me
It once was a secret but now I’ve set it free
And maybe I’m crazy but I’ll stand by what I said
I’m just not the same when there’s rain in my head
Rain in my head, etc.
The Golden West
By Andy Robinson, Jackson Wagner, Mark Phillips
I can give you the coordinates, more or less
To the valley where they laid my bones to rest
’Twas a cryin’ shame and a bloody mess
Par for the course in the Golden West
The white man’s God was asleep that day
I was polishing my rifle in the usual way
And I never had a moment to cry for help
When a brave with a tomahawk took my scalp
What a rotten screwed up thing to do
But if I were him I’d have done it too
We had guns – it was not a fair fight
They fought back hard and it served us right
That’s how we rolled in the Golden West
Some were damned and some were blessed
It’s time I got it off my chest
It was not like Hollywood
None of us ever looked that good
Good luck on your history test –
that’s how we rolled in the Golden West
On wicked mustangs they did ride
In britches made of buffalo hide
They caused our horses to stampede
All I could do was watch and bleed
I died beneath the desert sun
That painted brave took my gun
As I died I wished him well
I’ll see you, brother, down in Hell
That’s how we rolled in the Golden West
Life and death don’t take requests
Luck of the f*ckin’ draw I guess
What was all that killing for?
Hell, I don’t know – we won the war
Yeah sometime I get depressed, but that’s how we rolled
That’s how we rolled in the Golden West
I wish I could just forget
But baby it ain’t over yet
It was not like Hollywood
None of us could even shoot that good
That’s how we rolled
That’s how we rolled
That’s how we rolled in the Golden West
